In 1929, Hanns Prechtl directed "The Tyrolean People's Fight for Freedom", the definitive film about Andreas Hofer. Hundreds of extras re-enacted the battle of Bergisel, some so enthusiastic in their roles that there were dozens of injuries. Certain scenes from the film are like a section of the cyclorama come to life. Read more about how the film came to be in an essay by Helmut Alexander (in German). |
